Week 38
My mom and dad arrived on Saturday and we have been getting ready for baby ever since. We have the new double stroller set up, the matching infant car seat ready to go, and the baby crib prepared.
I went to the hospital today for some pre-cesarean procedures. I got my blood drawn, filled out paperwork, gave a urine sample, and almost fainted! I guess I should have eaten a bigger breakfast.
I check in to the hospital at 6:00 am tomorrow morning and baby will be born at 7:30 am. I am a little excited and a little nervous.
Here is one last belly pic...
Next time I post, it will be to introduce you all to our new baby girl or boy!

Week 37
Well - it is almost time to meet Baby Number Two. Week 37 finds baby practicing inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, very likely sucking his or her thumb, and pivoting from side to side.
I went to the doctor yesterday. I weigh 150.0 pounds and my belly is measuring 38 cm. I am also 1 cm dilated so baby could arrive any time now. However if not, I check into Providence Hospital at 5:30 am on Wednesday April 21st to meet my new little bundle of joy!
Something very special that happened this week... my class held a baby shower for me. We had pizza, cupcakes, juice and a big SURPRISE (my students and their parents bought us the sit and stand stroller that I wanted). It is awesome and I can't wait to use it, especially when we travel this summer!
Here are baby's new wheels:
I think it is so cool that this stroller can be used in four different ways! Avrey can sit or stand on the back while baby's car seat sits up front.
I feel so blessed and a little overwhelmed by the generosity of those who surround me. I work in the best school on earth, teach the best students on earth, and am lucky enough to have the most supportive parent group on earth! Life could not be better.

Week 36
I went to the doctor today. I weigh 149 pounds and my blood pressure is normal at 120/60. My belly is measuring 36 cm (which is right on track as the measurement should closely match the number of weeks pregnant that I am). Baby's heartbeat registered at 135 bpm and Doctor Morhain (sitting in for Dr. Saprykina; she is out of town this week) estimated the baby is just under 7 pounds.

Week 35
Not much to report...
Baby and Mama are still doing great. I just know the next three weeks are going to fly by.
This week baby is busy putting on weight and feeling a little cramped. Baby's kicks and punches are a reassuring sign that all is going well though.
I visit the doctor next week so I will be sure to post another update then.

Week 34
Yesterday morning I went for a sonogram (probably my last one unless we decide to have another bambino) to check if baby was is in the head down position. Turns out this baby is a lot like its momma (prepares for big events early) because he/she is in fact head down and ready to go. From the sonogram Dr. Saprykina could tell that baby's back is on my left side and his/her legs and arms are on my right side. She also took many measurements of the baby and estimated his/her weight to be 5 pounds and 2 ounces so baby should definitely be ready to be born in three to four weeks. Baby's heartbeat was registering in the 130 beats per minute range which is a little slower than the last appointment.
Sorry - no sonogram pics this time though. It was actually pretty challenging to understand what I was seeing on the sonogram screen this appointment since baby is almost fully developed. Instead of looking at baby's entire body I was just able to view certain parts at a time. Dr. Saprykina was very helpful though, she would say things like "here is baby's leg" and "this is baby's arm" and then I was better able to picture what I was viewing.
It was great to see baby one more time before he/she arrives in 28 days.

Week 33
All is well with baby, mommy, and the rest of the family.
Mommy goes for another sonogram to check if baby is head down on Tuesday. I am very excited to see baby one more time before his/her big arrival and I will be sure to post the sonogram pics.
This week baby should be weighing over 4 pounds and should be measuring about 17 - 19 inches. Baby's eyes have pigment (I'm guessing blue) and are starting to dilate.
I am in awe that I only have four more weeks of teaching and about five more weeks until baby is in my arms.

Week 32
I went to my 32 week check up yesterday and I now weigh 143 lbs. The baby's heartbeat was registering in the 160 bpm range and my belly measurement was 35 cm (5 cm more than last time). Dr. Saprykina is probably going to do a sonogram at my next appointment to be sure that the baby is in the head-down position as we are getting closer and closer to the April 21st c-section date.
According to the experts, baby should be just over three to four pounds by now and should measure about 16 inches long. Baby now has toenails, fingernails, and hair on his/her head (of some sort).
Overall, things are going really well. I was sure to take advantage of the extra time that this snowy spring break in Alaska afforded me and started 'nesting'. The baby bassinette has been washed, set up, and covered so it will remain clean. All yellow, green, and white baby clothes have been washed, folded, and are now put away into a dresser awaiting baby's arrival. I think I may be driving Scott nuts but I feel less stressed and more ready for baby to make his/her big debut!

Week 31
Baby is doing wonderfully! I received my gestational diabetes test results and my glucose levels are in the normal range. Mama goes to the doctor again next week (3/11/10) and can't wait to hear the delightful sound of that little heartbeat. Baby is weighing about 3 1/2 pounds now and is getting ready to beef up for his/her entry into the real world.
Our family will go for baby's first photo shoot on Friday (3/5/10) even though baby will be incognito. Avrey's maternity photo shoot went really well and so we are definitely excited to document the 'Baby Number Two' belly.

Week 29
I am feeling great and can't believe that I am already in week 29 of my pregnancy.
Yesterday I went to Denali OBGYN and completed my gestational diabetes test. I chose the orange syrupy liquid over the lemon lime (not sure I made the right choice or in this case if there is a 'right choice'). Then I had five minutes to chug the mixture, an hour long wait in the doctor's office ( I caught up on my US Weekly reading), and finally a quick blood test to finish up.
This week baby is hard at work gaining more weight (now about 2 & 1/2 pounds and the same weight as a butternut squash), maturing muscles, and developing strong bone structures. Good thing mama loves calcium rich foods like yogurt, cheese, and milk - YUM!!!
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf5Pk75B_w5vFv9gIDGItIDflDjJa7yt_5DzqGAFpavOaennmCBGTdX_0GXWVtIrBQNEfxUZF_NrMrnAFJHowF3dFMXDK_qxZf4Yx0rITxSr6tPCTlutdK9-nsqSHG4zuuA4PCWgDNfeEO/s320/Picture+4.png)
According to the above diagram, no wonder I can't breath when I sit down - baby's bottom (especially those little kickers) are giving my ribs a work out!

Week 28
It is hard to believe that I am in my seventh month of pregnancy and entering my third trimester. Scott and I went for our 28 week appointment to see Dr. Saprykina on Wednesday (2/10/10). I now weigh 141.6 pounds and baby weighs 2 to 3 pounds. Baby's heartbeat was in the 160's during the appointment this time. I am excited that baby is doing well and is busy working hard growing eyelashes, developing neurons, and putting on the pounds.

Week 27
Week 26
Baby is almost two pounds now and is training for the upcoming winter Olympics I think. (S)he is moving around at regular intervals throughout the day now and is especially active at night (I think (s)he will take after Dad-the-night-owl in that department). Baby can open his/her eyes and is probably working on a pretty set of 'blues' even though eye pigmentation is still developing at this point. Mama can't believe that time is passing so quickly... less than 100 days until we meet baby!

Baby now weighs over 1.5 pounds which is about the average size of a rutabaga (not sure if that is a helpful comparison as I don't often pick up rutabaga's from the grocery store) and measures over 13 inches long. He/she is also starting to get color and texture to his/her hair.

Week 24
Week 23
Baby can now sense my movement, feel me dance, and is able to hear sounds from the outside world... so (s)he is definitely going to be born already knowing how to do the hokey pokey and play ring-around-the-roses. That's about the extent of my dancing these days with my dance partner Avrey. Baby is moving around and making so many movements inside me lately I get the feeling (s)he may already be playing along with us.

Week 22
This is a big week for baby - (s)he now has tooth buds beneath his/her gums, is definitely over a pound in weight, and is about the size of a spaghetti squash. I think I am going to have to say 'goodbye' to the fruit analogies soon... it could get a little frightening considering some of the vegetation that may be coming up could involve watermelons and pumpkins.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivEUhrUSlg5koWfz_MTTQCJ_CoxLiy6wKR52b2ZueVvPq93i1cREPk8z2z9ztQ_uo_nbAIQmB8jymsYyB34sOLQrKzS4UUd8Gxen0bXX8sfzmkFKXyD25Vx6wIRCSIpzID3KUAiFBi1JVN/s320/Picture+7.png)

Ultrasound (21 weeks & 2 days)
Here are some images from our latest ultrasound. I am 21 weeks & 2 days pregnant but baby is measuring 21 weeks & 4 days (over achieving already - this baby is going to be just like daddy too). Baby is measuring about 12.8 cm and weighs about 1 pound.
Baby was very active during the sonogram. In the image below (s)he is grabbing her/his toes.
This picture is a good shot of the baby's face close up - look at that cute little nose (she/he gets that from me).
In the picture below baby is in the perfect pike position - I think (s)he is going to be an Olympic diver some day. Look at that flawless form!
See... this is the kind of kicking and punching I was talking about in my last blog post. Too much exposure to daddy's Wii playing.

Week 21
Baby is now the length of a carrot and will be focusing on gaining weight from here on out. Baby's length will still double before birth but his/her weight will increase at least ten fold. I think momma may be watching daddy play too much Wii because baby is starting to punch, kick, and move like (s)he is already a natural.

Week 20
Half way there already???? NO WAY!
20 weeks of pregnancy down and 20 more to go.
Baby is now the length of a banana - wow! I can't wait to see him/her again and I don't have to wait too long because we go for our next ultrasound (the big 20 week one; although we will be over 21 weeks pregnant) next week.
No peeking though... we are keeping the baby's sex a SECRET this time!
