Week 18

Here I am at 18 weeks and 3 days pregnant - 152 days to go until we meet baby!

No wonder baby has been flexing his/her arms and legs lately... mama has been back at the gym for a couple of weeks now. This baby is going to be a genius too because mama watches Cash Cab while working out on the elliptical (gotta love Ben Bailey).

Week 17

So baby is now the size of my open hand, can hear (and even be startled by) sound, and is able to move his/her eyes from side to side. Can't wait to see baby up close again on Dec. 23 (our next sonogram).

Week 16

Baby is now the size of an avocado (can you tell I like the comparisons to grocery store produce) and his/her heart is pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day. Baby is beginning to sense sound too - hope he/she likes Christmas tunes. Baby will probably be born singing Jingle Bells as Avrey likes me to put it on repeat these days while driving in the car.

Week 15

Baby is now the size of an apple and can sense light. Avrey is going to have a blast communicating with her sibling via flashlight.

Week 14

Oh my goodness... the second trimester is here already?!

Baby is now about the size of a lemon and is able to squint, frown, and even grasp. Baby is also now growing an ultra-fine downy covering of hair called lanugo.

Mama is feeling more energetic and less nauseous (except for that one morning that I ate scrambled eggs with ketchup and milk - big mistake)!

Week 13

Baby is now almost three inches long and has finger prints. Mama is excited to be entering the second trimester!

Week 12

Now the size of a lime... Baby has reflexes, a functioning bladder, and weighs about half an ounce. Mama is starting to feel less tired and a lot less nauseous.

Week 11

This week Scott and I went for our Ultrascreen Appointment at 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant. The screening included a sonogram of the baby and a finger prick blood test. The sonogram was amazing - we got to see the baby move again, saw fluid in the baby's stomach and kidneys so we know the digestive system is functioning, saw the heart beating, two arms, two legs, and a cute little tip of a nose. This time the baby's heartbeat was 155.

Week 10

Baby has been busy this week developing finger nail beds, peach fuzz hair, and even taste buds. Baby is now the size of a kumquat and is exiting the embryonic stage and entering the fetal period. Yeah Baby!

Ultrasound (9 weeks & 4 days)

Now the size of a large green olive - Baby is doing great! Baby's eyes have eyelids, Baby's heart has all four chambers, and Baby is moving! Of course I can't feel it yet but I was able to see it on the ultrasound screen. So AMAZING!!!

Week 9

Here I am at 9 weeks pregnant - if you look closely you can see my little 'bump'. Okay... I am pushing it out a bit but at least I am proud of it. Man! The second time round things happen much more QUICKLY!

Week 8 - Feeling a little fruity...

Well - my uterus is now the size of a grapefruit and baby is the size of a raspberry. It is amazing to believe that he/she is gaining over 100 brain cells per minute - this is going to be one smart baby!

Week 7

Our baby is now as big as a blueberry and already has some color to his/her eyes. I wonder if they will be a beautiful blue like Avrey's?

Ultrasound (6 weeks & 3 days)

After a small amount of spotting Dr. Saprykina wanted to make sure all was well so she squeezed me into her busy schedule and what do you know... we have a healthy little baby who measures 0.86 cm long and has a heart as big as a poppy seed that beats 144 beats per minute! Truly amazing!

Week 6

Okay - who turned up the nausea?

I am eating about every fifteen minutes lately and sipping water all day long just to keep my nausea at bay. Not complaining though - it is a good sign that the baby is doing well!

Kind of funny though... Avrey asked me the other day "Mama - you got the HUNGRIES?"

Week 5

Feeling great; a little tired (bedtime is earlier and earlier these days it seems). I am excited that Baby Number Two now has a functioning circulatory system and is growing a little every day. The size of an apple seed - wow!
